Whiter Teeth

Smile with Confidence

A Brighter Smile with Professional Bleaching

Whitening teeth can make a dramatic difference in appearance. If the teeth are healthy, straight and shaped nicely, teeth bleaching is the way to go and can be done either at home or in the office. If there are other issues as well, like spaces, crooked teeth or discolored old fillings, alternative options like veneers might be a better solution.

At Home Bleaching, An Effective,
Economical Whitening Solution

Home tooth whitening is the most economical of all the whitening options. It works best for people who have reasonably straight, healthy, well-proportioned teeth and don’t mind spending a few minutes at home to do the process.

1

First we take impressions of your upper and lower teeth. These will allow us to make custom gel-holding appliances called bleaching trays. The trays are paper thin and virtually invisible on your teeth.

2

Next you will be given the trays, the whitening gel and instructions on how often to wear your trays. Simply, follow the take-home directions and continue to maintain proper oral hygiene.

3

Maximum whitening results will be obtained in most cases two weeks after following the specified procedures.

The microscopic holes in teeth that let the stains go in let also let us take the stains out with bleaching. After time, the teeth will darken again. The more you avoid dark foods and drinks like coffee, tea, red wines and gravies, the longer the bleaching will last.

But the good news is that you can do touch ups at home. Save your models and bleaching trays and all you will need is to purchase whitening gel.

Tooth bleaching was discovered by accident years ago when a gum specialist was trying to find a way to kill the germs that cause gum disease by using products containing peroxide.  What they found was that the germ killing effect did not last very long BUT, OMG …. The teeth got whiter!  Well the rest is history as the dental chemists worked to find formulas that would be most effective and gentle and long lasting.

Modern tooth whitening under the supervision of our dental team does not harm the teeth,  make them more decay prone or harm the gums.

Most people will show good improvement but it does vary from person to person.  Younger people with yellow but straight teeth get the best results.  People whose teeth are gray or have discolored fillings will usually not get as good of a result,  so come for a free consultation for the best advice

Whitening is done by pulling out the stain causing chemicals out of the teeth so there can be some short lasting irritation in the teeth to cold liquids and rarely breathing in cold air, but this sensitivity can easily be controlled by mild pain relievers. Sensitivity longer than that is extremely rare.

An advantage of home whitening is that you can do it for as long or as often as you like to balance speed of whitening with any sensitivity. In fact we recommend that for people whose teeth tend to be sensitive to take a couple of Advil or Tylenol before bleaching sessions

Most people can benefit from using ZOOM, including people with severe food and tobacco or tetracycline stains. However, extremely dark teeth that may need changes of 20+ would require more than one treatment.

The ZOOM procedure has been proven safe in clinical studies conducted by senior researchers at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and confirmed by researchers at New York University.

Yes! Typically we expect to get 6 – 8 shades whiter after bleaching. Since we always want to under promise and over deliver we do tell you that younger people’s teeth bleach better than older peoples. And yellow teeth bleach better than gray teeth.

In fact, we cannot predict an exact shade you will achieve by bleaching and we will do our best to advise whether bleaching is a good option for you

The ZOOM teeth whitening process is normally painless. A small percentage of people may experience a minor, dull “ache ” during or following the procedure. Taking an Advil (ibuprofen) or Tylenol (acetaminophen) almost always resolves the feeling. It is best to avoid very hot or very cold drinks for the first 24 hours if there is any tooth sensitivity.

Phillip’s Story

This gentleman’s main complaint was that his teeth were dark and discolored and he wanted them bleached. We could have tried to bleach them, but since they were very dark, the bleaching probably would not have done that much good. Even if we got them lighter, he would still have spaces. Using porcelain veneers we were able to lighten his teeth and at the same time close the spaces.
